    The unusual past of the two judges who acquitted the Jerusalem truck driver.

    The driver who ran over the teenager, Yosef Eisenthal, in Jerusalem is Fakhri Khatib, an Arab resident of East Jerusalem. Khatib claimed during his interrogation that he felt his life was in danger when the protesters gathered around the bus, which he claims influenced his actions on the day of the incident.
    But in reality, he started driving after four minutes during which no one hit him, and even after most of the protesters had left the area.

    Those who stood by his side and expressed support for his release were Judges Tamar Bar-Asher and Sharon Lari-Bavli. Both judges effectively allowed his release to house arrest. Bar-Asher also noted that she believes him.

    These are two controversial judges.
    Larry-Bavli previously released a potential terrorist who expressed support for firing rockets at Israel. The judge, who now believed the driver of the car, claimed at the time that “it is a person’s right to hope that this will be the case,” a move that led to her being reprimanded by the Judicial Admissions Commissioner, who made it clear that such a statement could be interpreted as legitimizing dangerous behavior toward the State of Israel and its citizens.

    Larry-Bavli, who this time believed the driver of the hit-and-run, who claimed to be afraid of protesters, was particularly lenient towards other protesters, members of the ‘Brothers in Arms’ and left-wing protesters, including in allegations that they attacked police officers.

    In Judge Bar-Asher’s case, she compared the text of inflammatory content in the Palestinian Authority to the writings of the Bible, claiming that they too supposedly contain passages that can be interpreted as “difficult content.”

    Stay home and get out of the fights. It’s a crazy country that is all confused about what it means to be a Jew and how to figure out what hashem wants from us. Either leave the country to be safe or do your thing and don’t get involved and stay safe. Anyone with any common sense knows the answers but most people just want their fame and fortune right now and aren’t really interested in what’s best for the people. It’s really simple, learning Torah is an acceptable job, and being prepared if you can’t learn full time to get a job is also ok. Each person has to know himself what works for him. You want to join an army where some guy will tell you to go on a mission and die – I think it’s pretty stupid as you only have your life – but if you give your life and everything else over to the secular government then what do you expect? Basics really.

    @yankel – That’s a major understatement (and you and I 100% agree about it).

    Front page has a video of R Landau saying that bochurim should not be at these demonstrations. So, those who were there either did not bother asking the gadol, or went against his instructions? If so, what are their expectation – what zechus is protecting them?

    Somehow, chiloni protests hold more sway.

    The protests in 2022 against the judicial reform worked very well and are largely to blame for what’s going on today.

    It’s a shame.

    The country needs a complete judicial overhaul.

    @fakenews

    chiloni protests held more sway.

    and worked very well …

    because the judicial system , the MSM and the international left very shrewdly held their hands over them

    in a blatant shmor li va’eshmor lach fashion

    and are to blame for everything going wrong today.

    @elmer J. That is another subject. I was referring to the ‘avel baMishpat’.

    @yankel
    berel, I totally agree.

    @Always_Ask_Questions
    , either they have their own Rabbonim or misguided. They are innocent, after all.

    @@fakenews, of course, the Kaplan rioters got the 1st class treatment.

    Always, there are gedolim who hold differently than R Lando. The Eisentals are part of the Peleg community and adhere to the psakim of R Ezriel Auerbach

    yankel> Those AAQ’s comments reveal his ignorance of the basic facts of the israeli scene ….

    the point of the discussion is to build a full logical argument by combining different facts and viewpoints. Combining an ad hominems with an ad silentium makes it into an absurdum: you don’t know the person and you don’t know why that person chose to exclude some information. Here is how you actually argue:

    Moshe> gedolim who hold differently than R Lando … Peleg

    Right, I heard the reference. This raises a lot of questions:
    Does it mean that only Peleg are demonstrating?
    Is there anyone who has standing over whole community?
    We had here before Steipler’s letter to NK and I had a feeling that Steipler was trying to convince, including by flattering, rather than direct. Are there any communications between groups going on now?
    Many charedi leaders, or at least followers, express their opinion about RL and non-religious sector, often implying that disobedience to their shitah is against the Torah, etc. Is there more respect to different shitot in this case?

    #2499112

    more qs:
    how do people choose to become member of peleg or stay with the mainstream? Do they ask their local rov or do they, H’V, decide on their own?
    how do members react to gedolim who strongly disagreed with peleg?

    It unfortunate but somewhat typical for judges in this era to base their decisions based upon political circumstances which may enhance or curtail their careers. In this case, it wouldn’t be surprising that the judge(s) fear was based upon fear of being harmed physically (by the driver himself and/or his would-be sypathizers), especially where both judges are female.
